The band
GELOUSY was founded in 1997 when musicians from several Latvian bands
(Nejauta, Husquarna) came together with an idea to create original and
unusual for Latvia kind of music. The first concert of GELOUSY was at
the festival Survival Extra in 1997 and since then they have played
at many clubs and festivals within Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. The
band received Grand Prix at Sinepes un Medus festival in 1998 and also
played at Forte Riga in 2000. Their song "Water is sweeter than wine"
was No.1 on the LNT (Latvian Independent Television) music chart. Currently
GELOUSY are recording an album, which will reflect their characteristic
alternative guitar music style.

HUGO -
an alternatively creative band from Kuldiga, technical and speedy hardcore
with some features of other styles (jazz, ska). A particular thing about
HUGO is Zvejnieks' (voc) expressive voice, which varies different extents
of acuteness and depth according to circumstances. The backbone of the
ideological and technical skills and convictions is the Do It Yourself
idea and its implementation into life. HUGO has been existing for three
years already, although the current line-up has been playing together
from the fall of 2000.

A possessor
of a wonderful voice and author of splendid love songs. So far has recorded
only one tape album "Mana apgazta laiva" (My Overturned Boat) (1997
Tornis rec.). This year KALVIS promises to release a new album "Ielu
miers" (Street Peace), which he is working on now.

The band
was formed in 1998 by Erjo Selliov & Einar Ojarand, later on Juhan Sahharov
(bass guitar) & Lauri Tammiste (drums) joined the group. The last two
abandoned the group in 1999-2000 and were replaced with Lauri Kulpsoo
(drums) & Timo Porila (bass guitar) - this change added some new massive
ideas and more power to the group. ...loss. love. obsession. youth.

back in 1994, with an impressive live experience supporting bands like

FIELDS is the pearl of the Baltic-Area, an amazing band that display

MOUNTAINSIDE
came into existence in 1996 after the break-up of thrashcore mob DELIRIUM
TREMENS. People in the band like a really wide spectre of musical genres,
but they all share the passion for loud guitar music and the main stylistic
influences for this band are hard core, punk, thrash and stoner rock,
though some traces of other styles such as new wave, grunge or even
funk can be found in MOUNTAINSIDE's music. With years the band has gathered
a dedicated following which culminated in fanclub's establishment. By
now the band has just one record, hopefully not the last, as for the
time being MOUNTAINSIDE has enough material for recording at least 5
LPs.

woke up in some bar in 1995. "They all play blues. Oh god, is everything
really that bad?"- he exclaimed and was immediately invited to play
in Kompadres - the first regaae band in Riga. Later a band Los Amigos
separated from Kompadres and for some time there were two bands playing
in Riga - Los Amigos and Kompadres, with Kabi, the rutha-power-of-life
preaching frontman from South Yemen. But soon Kabiman scampered away
and Pchol started a Russian reggae project PCOLI (Bees). In the first
gig in Bolderaja Pchol was flinged at with empty (!) beer cans and Pchol
thought - everything is bullshit... and bees are also bullshit. Now
Пчёлы (Pcholi) play with great success
in the empty "Saksofons" club (and here, at the Congress hall).

PEST OF
A CHILD play positively charged punk rock with hardcore and ska influences.
The band has five members. There is also an invisible member named Fridis,
who plays a wooden pipe. POC are from Riga and the average age of the
band is 19 years, except for Fridis, whose age is unknown.

PND is
a Latvian punk band, playing together since February 2nd, 1998 (a significant
date for punks). No matter what you think, PND does not mean PUNKS NOT
DEAD, those are just three letters and it's not important. The line-up
has changed repeatedly, still the current one is the best. And we have
to admit that we have reached something only because PND are what they
are: Martinsh - drums, Mikelis - trumpet, Valters - guitar, Didzis -
bass, Mironis(Ivars) - manager, Pavasars(Marcis) - vocals. We are proud
that we are punks and Latvians!
